The historic 101-year-old Mount Hood Railroad
has been put up for sale.
The price tag? $5.2 million.
General Manager Michelle Marquart
said the existing owners want to retire.
“They (the 20 investors) bought it
from Union Pacific in 1987. It’s an aging group and time to turn
the reins over to someone else,” she said.
The sale comes with the condition
that the buyer keeps the operation open. Since their three-day
advertisement ran in the Wall Street Journal in mid-July, MHRR
has had between 20 and 30 responses. Marquart said she couldn’t
go into details, but one potential buyer has toured the
operation.
