Burglars hit Cascade Locks City Hall over the
weekend and made off with $1,002.41 in cash from lockboxes.
“It was sometime between 5 p.m. Friday and 2
p.m. Saturday,” City Administrator Bernard Seeger told the
council at its Monday night meeting.
The burglars gained access by unscrewing a
glass window in a side door. They climbed up into the ceiling
and worked their way into city offices where they kicked out
sheetrock between the walls to Finance Recorder Marianne Bump’s
office.
After taking the lockboxes they drilled into
the candy machine downstairs and emptied it of change. An
unknown amount was taken. Although they tried breaking into a
soda machine, they were unsuccessful. Nothing else was taken.
Hood River County Sheriff’s Detective Bob
Davidson said at this time there are no suspects in the case. He
said citizens with any information relating to the case can call
the Sheriff’s Office at 386-2098 or his line at 387-6847.
He said another theft case in the Gorge on
Sunday near Wahclella Falls was most likely not related. In it,
Multnomah County Sheriff’s Department arrested two men for
stealing from fee boxes after they left the area.
“No, the Cascade Locks robbery is a different MO (mode of
operation) altogether,” Davidson said. “Meth users like that
grab whatever they can take and the Cascade Locks robbery was
different.”
