Forum on 49 set Tuesday

October 17, 2007

The Hood River County Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee is hosting a Measure 49 Forum on Oct. 23 from 6-8 p.m. at Hood River Middle School, 1602 May St., in Hood River.

On Nov. 6, Oregonians will be asked to vote on proposed legislation that addresses issues raised by Measure 37. After months of discussion and research, Measure 49 was written to address the potential impact of Measure 37 to Oregonians.

Dave Meriwether, county administrator, will emcee the forum.

Brief presentations will be made by State Representative Brian Clem, Dist. 21; Dave Hunnicutt, Oregonians in Action; Mike McCarthy, Hood River Valley Residents Committee; and John Benton, Hood River County Agriculture and Forestland Owners Association.

Presentations will be followed by a question and answer period.

“We are excited to bring the key advocates — pro and con — regarding Measure 49 to our community,” said Mary Gumm, chair of the Government Affairs Committee. “I’m sure it will be an informative event”.

For further information about the proposed legislation, you may obtain a copy of it at the Oregon legislature’s Web site, at: http://www.leg. state.or.us/bills_laws/. The legislation is listed as the Enrolled version of House Bill 3540 under 2007 measures.

The Ballot Title and Explanatory Statement for Measure 49, as well as a copy of the measure, are in the Voter’s Pamphlet, as well as at the Secretary of State’s Elections Division Web site, at: http://www.sos.state.or.us/elections/nov62007/.
