Medics from the Hood River Fire Department assist a pedestrian hit by a pickup truck in the crosswalk of 12th Street and Pacific Avenue on Monday afternoon. The vehicle struck the woman, a senior citizen, about 3 p.m. and she sustained a fractured left hip and broken bones. The victim, whose name was not available at press time, was transported by ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland as a trauma patient. The driver of the truck, Christopher Volton, 27, of Hood River was cited for careless driving, failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and driving uninsured. Because his actions caused an injury, Colton was ticketed for $509 instead of $252 for the first two charges against him. He was believed by law enforcement officials to be exceeding the 25 mile per hour speed limit at the time of the accident.
