Oregon Sen. Rick Metsger, D-Welches,
announced Tuesday that he is running for Secretary of State.
Metsger believes that nine years of
accomplishment in his current elected office will help win the
seat in 2008.
“I have witnessed what we can do
together when we focus on a common goal,” he said during the
Nov. 20 press conference to declare his candidacy.
“I know how leadership can
transform the impossible to the possible; obstacles into
opportunity and despair into hope.”
Incumbent Bill Bradbury is
prevented by an eight-year term limitation from seeking
re-election. To date, three other contenders will be vying
against Metsger for the open position. They are: Sen. Kate
Brown, D-Portland, Sen. Vicki Walker, D-Eugene, and Sen. Brad
Avakian, D-Portland.
Metsger’s professional background
includes his current role as principal in a strategic issues
management firm. He is perhaps best-known for his 16 years as a
television anchorman at KOIN-TV. His wife, Kay, is an open heart
surgery nurse at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in
Portland. |
