Community Ed events upcoming

Several Community Education athletic events are coming up soon. The Hershey's Track and Field Meet for ages 9-14 will be held Tuesday, May 27, at 6 p.m. at HRVHS.  

All first place finishers at this regional meet qualify for the Oregon state meet. Cost for the event is $1 per child. 

Community Education will also host two track meets for kids ages 2 and up June 3 and 10 at HRVHS with starts at 6 p.m. Cost is $1 per child.

Pre-school soccer clinics for children ages 3-5 will be held June 19 and 20 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Westside Elementary. Cost is $8 per child and is session is limited to 50 children.

Coed soccer for grades K-2 starts June 24 and runs through  July 29. Teams are forming in Parkdale, Odell and Hood River.

Cost is $39 per player. Practices and games are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Registration deadline in June 13.

Dynamos fall league sign-ups and tryouts start May 6

All players entering fourth through eighth grade are invited to sign-up and/or try out for fall Dynamos soccer teams.

Tryouts for players entering fourth through sixth grade  will be held Tuesday, May 6, and Thursday May 8, from 6-8 p.m. at Westside Elementary.

Tryouts for players entering seventh and eighth grade will be held Tuesday, May 13, and Thursday May 15, from 6-8 p.m. at Westside Elementary.

Players should attend both nights if possible; bring a ball and water bottle and dress to play.

Some ages and/or genders have recreational teams, some competitive, and some both.

There is a mandatory parent sign-in at a parent meeting from 6-6:30 p.m. during the Tuesday tryouts.

Knowles, Dolin win ICWG Days Play

Carol Knowles finished first in low gross Days Play for the Indian Creek Women’s Golf Association on Thursday, May 1, with a 94. Cindy Dolin finished first in Low Net, with a 66. Patsy Prideaux finished second in Low Gross with a 97, while Toni Nippolt finished third with a 99. Ellen Hixon finished second in Low Net with a 72, and Cynthia Brocklesby finished third with a 77.

New time for Days Play is 8:30 a.m. with the draw at 8:15.

Starting Monday, May 5, there will be informal play at 9 a.m. for any lady golfer who would like to play, the price will be the same as Thursday's Days Play.

Fantastic Gymnastics’ clinic May 10

Gorge gymnastics will host a clinic for boys and girls age 6 through 10, Saturday, May 10, at Hood River Sports Club. The clinic goes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes time on floor, bars, beam and vault events, a show from the Gorge Gymnastics competitive girls team, pictures with the Gorge Gymnastics team, and a T-shirt for every participant.

Cost for the clinic is  $40. Each participant should bring a sack lunch with healthy snack for break time and water or Gatorade-type drink.  Plastic only.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing without zippers, snaps or buttons and make sure longer hair is pulled back out of the way so it doesn’t interfere with tumbling.
