The Horizon Christian
boys basketball team cruised to a pair of wins at the City
Christian tournament in Portland over the weekend to win the
tournament championship.
In their first game the
Hawks picked up a 57-37 win over Trout Lake. It was third time
the teams had faced each other this season, and each has
resulted in a win by at least 20 points for Horizon. In the
tournament championship game the Hawks easily handled host City
Christian for a 50-35 win to avenge a loss to the Lions in the
previous year’s tournament championship.
Meanwhile, the Horizon
girls basketball team split its two games at the tournament. The
Hawks fell to City Christian 27-25 in overtime. Stephanie Taylor
tied the game with a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the
contest into overtime. Taylor led the Hawks with 10 points. City
Christian was able to pull out the win despite being out
rebounded 45-23 by Horizon. The Hawks then beat Madison’s JV
team 43-35 thanks to a 13-point effort by Liz Taylor. The Hawks
led almost the whole way to pick up their first win of the year.
“It was a total team
effort,” Horizon coach Stan Perkins said. “We played very hard
and took care of the ball.”
Both Hawk teams play at
Crook County on Friday before hosting Griswold on Saturday.
