The Hood River Valley
wrestling team finished second out of seven teams at last
weekend’s Elks Invitational tourney at Hood River Valley High
School.
The Eagles had two
individual champions in the event, with Sean Baker finishing
first at 145 pounds and Aaron Mallon finishing first at 160
pounds.
Both Baker and Mallon made
it through the day undefeated, with Baker going 4-0 and Mallon
3-0.
The Eagles also had four
second place finishers. Robert Frasiers finished second with a
2-1 record at 125 pounds, Taren Bennett, went 2-1 at 152 pounds
Lucas Mondragon went at 189 pounds and Joe Johnson going 3-1 at
215 pounds.
Johnson’s only defeat came
at the hands of Tyrell Fortune of Lakeridge who is ranked No. 1
in the nation at 215 pounds.
Other strong finishers for
the Eagles included a third place, 3-1, finish for Alex Van
Slyke at 152 pounds, a third place, 2-1, finish for Justin
Tolentino at 171 pounds, and third place, 3-1, finish for Corey
Miller in the heavyweight class.
Silverton finished the
tournament in first place, while Reynolds finished third.
The Eagles are slated to
compete at the Oregon Wrestling Classic this weekend at the
Deschutes Fairgrounds. They then travel to Centennial Jan. 24 to
wrestle the Centennial Eagles in a league dual meet.
