The Cooper Spur Race
Team held its annual five-day “Cooper Camp” Dec 27-31.
The event draws kids
from the Hood River Valley as well as many other surrounding
areas.
The CSRT set a new
record this year with over 110 kids ages 5-13 at the camp.
The camp wraps up on the
final day with the Cooper Cup race for all camp participants.
As with all CSRT races,
the campers raced in male and female categories divided by age
ranges.
In addition to age
ranges, the prestigious Cooper Cup is awarded to the fastest
girl and boy in the race. This year’s Cooper Cup winners were
Raquel Bruggeman and Charlie Mallon.
In addition, the widely
sought- after “Coaches Cup” which followed the Cooper Cup was
won with gate-shattering speed shown by coaches Kelsey Spadaro
and Jeff Bardin.
The next CSRT race at
Cooper Spur will be the Diamond Dual Slalom race hosted Jan. 20.
In other CSRT news, the
team is also working to develop a scholarship fund, and will
soon be auctioning on eBay a ski lift chair donated by Mt. Hood
Meadows from the former “Yellow Chair Lift” to start funding of
the scholarship.
