HRV wrestlers win five championships at Southridge

The HRV wrestling team sent competitors to the Southridge and Stevenson tournaments this past weekend.

At Southridge, HRV put seven wrestlers into the finals, and came away with five weight-class champions.

David Frasier won the 130-pound class, Sean Baker won 135, Aaron Mallon won 152. Lucas Mondragon won 189 and Cory Miller won the Heavyweight class. Second place finishers included Robert Frasier at 125 pounds, Brandon Gass at 140 pounds and Jordy Mallon at 125 pounds.

Gary Thompson was the other HRV placer with a sixth place finish at 130 pounds

The high finishes included several wins over ranked wrestlers. Jordy Mallon pinned No. 22-ranked Casey Young of Southridge in 2:07, David Frasier pinned No .4-ranked Alex Rojas of Gresham in 1:33, and Baker and Miller both scored decision wins over top-20 ranked wrestlers.

The Eagles finished the day with a record of 31-18, including 18 wins by fall.

Miller picked up the fastest pin of the weekend in a 20-second victory.

At the Columbia Gorge Invitational in Stevenson the Eagles finished the tournament with five place-winners.

Mark Salazer placed third at 140 pounds, Cameron Kiyokawa placed third at 215 pounds, Taren Bennet placed fourth at 152 pounds and Ryan Combelic placed fifth at 135 pounds.

Bennet picked up the fastest pin in the tournament for the Eagles, with a 35-second victory.

The Eagles travel to Centennial on Thursday for a dual meet against the Centennial Eagles, and then to a tournament in Forest Grove on Saturday before hosting their final regular season dual meet on Jan. 31 against Barlow.
