The Hood River Valley girls basketball playoff hopes suffered a
setback in a 42-38 loss at Sandy on Tuesday.
Despite the loss the
Eagles remained in fifth place in the Mount Hood Conference
standings, a half game ahead of Barlow.
The Eagles trailed by
three at halftime and could never get their offense rolling
against a tough Pioneer defense.
“Our outside shooting
has been poor this season and our shot selection wasn’t very
good this game,” Eagles coach Phil Hukari said.
Sarah Sturgess paced the
Pioneers with 17 points including a free-throw in the final
seconds to seal the win.
“I feel bad that
I didn’t prepare them for the game as we should have,” Hukari
said. “I take the blame for this loss.”
Meagan Clark led the
Eagles’ scoring effort with 12 points while Rachael Mallon added
eight and Audrey Mallon had seven points.
The loss sends the
Eagles into a key run of games to finish the season.
The Eagles were
scheduled to play at second- place Reynolds on Friday. The
Raiders defeated the Eagles 62-29 earlier this season.
The Eagles then travel to David Douglas
on Tuesday before hosting Centennial next Friday.
