Neither Cascade Locks team could pull out a
win on senior night on Friday, but the Pirate boys were able to
close out their season with a win at Helix the following
evening.
After the Pirate girls fell to Nixyaawii
58-27 on Friday, both Pirate teams honored their seniors, saying
goodbye to Mikayla Ryan, Kristen Rutherford and Della Hutson on
the girls side and Derrick Harbaugh, Daniel Nolin, Ben Russell
Kyle Prowett, Cory Williams and David Quinton on the boys side.
Nixyaawii dominated the boards early to a
commanding lead to halftime of the boys game, but the Pirates
rallied back in the second half.
However, when Prowett and Harbaugh fouled out
in the fourth quarter, the wind went out of the Pirates’ sails
and they came up on the short end of a 64-54 score.
“It went back and forth there for a while,
but we just couldn’t make the adjustments.” Pirate coach Phil
Nolin said.
Both teams closed out their season the
following night at Helix.
The Pirate girls ended with a 56-21 defeat at
the hands of the Grizzlies after Helix jumped out to a 31-6
halftime lead.
The Pirate boys flipped things around on the
Grizzlies in their game in a 67-37 win.
The Pirates were able to take a commanding
lead early on through offensive and defensive boards, and making
the important shots.
Harbaugh and Daniel Nolin tore through the
Helix defense to score drive after drive.
With the Pirates up by 32, coach Phil Nolin
gave the second string players a chance to finish off the
victory.
The Pirate boys finish the season with a record of 7-15, 4-12
in conference play, while the girls close the season with a 2-18
mark, 1-15 in conference play.
