The bats of the Hood
River Valley baseball team continued to get plenty of work
against West Albany on Monday, but it was not enough to stave
off a game winning rally by the Bulldogs in an 8-7 loss for the
Eagles.
After the Eagles scored
three runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead, the
Bulldogs were able to put two across in the bottom of the inning
to win the game.
HRV took an early 2-0
lead in the second inning, and then added two more in the top of
the fourth. However, West Albany used a run in the second and
two in the third and fifth innings to take a 5-4 lead. After
West Albany added another run in the sixth, the Eagles came up
to their final chance at the plate needing to get something
started.
Jimmy Gilkerson led of
the seventh with a single and was bunted to second by Keanu
Webb. Jordan Bryant followed that by reaching first on a catcher
interference call.
Brandon Nelson then
drove in Gilkerson with a single and Nelson and Bryant both
advanced on a passed ball.
After Thomas Nickel
struck out, Elliott Sherrell brought home both runners with an
RBI double off the outfield field that put the Eagles in front.
The lead proved to be
short lived though as the Bulldogs put across the tying and
winning runs in the bottom half of the inning.
At the plate the Eagles
were paced by his two hits and two RBI. Travis Carratt also
drove in two runs for the Eagles.
The Eagles now head to the Bucks Bags
Classic in Idaho for four games before returning to Hood River
to face Summit in an April Fools day showdown on April 1.
