HRN REPORTS
May 10, 2008
The doubles duo of Maurizio von Flotow and Mike DeWitt qualified
for the 6A state tennis tournament after a second place finish
at the Mount Hood Conference district tournament this week.
Von Flotow and DeWitt breezed through their first three rounds
winning each match in two sets, with no opponent getting closer
than 6-2 in any match.
They survived a scare in the semi finals but emerged with a 7-6,
6-3 win and then lost in the finals to the No. 1 seeded team
from Central Catholic.
Junior Alex Ing was named second team all conference after
advancing to the quarterfinals at No. 1 singles before losing to
Kevin Sayson of Barlow.
The only other HRV players to make it out of the first round
were the doubles team of Logan Merriam and Isaac Bubb which
advanced to the second round but fell 6-3, 6-1 to a team from
Reynolds.
The eight total match wins by HRV players moved the team up to a
sixth place overall finish in the MHC standings.
It was the final match for HRV’s Merriam, who will be graduating
in June.
“I’m extremely proud of our team and the effort they gave during
the tournament,” HRV coach Jon Hiatt said. “We represented HRV
very well.”
Von Flotow and DeWitt now head to the state tournament, which
will be held at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center May 15-17.
