Horizon
golfer Philip Stenberg qualified for the 1A/2A/3A state
tournament after a second place individual finish at the Hawks’
district tournament this week.
Stenberg
shot a 176 and shaved 12 strokes off his day one score during
the second day of the tournament.
After
getting out to a slow start with a 94 on day one, he fired off
an 82 on the second day to move into second place.
As a
team the Hawks shot a 74 to finish third, behind Echo and
Heppner.
“We
really improved as a team,” Horizon coach Oscar Stenberg said.
“Our kids improved for a 411 score to a 368 and my hat has to go
off to their hard work.”
He also
thanked the team’s host courses for helping them this season.
“We
would not be where we are today if it was not for (Indian Creek
and Hood River Golf Course),” he said.
Jake
Johnson finished second for the Eagles with a 189, Hayden
Herring finished third with a 191, Nate Boyden fourth with a 193
and Andrew Stenberg fifth with a 204.
The
state tournament will be played at Emerald Valley Golf Club May
12-13.
