HRN reports
May 20, 2008
The HRV boys lacrosse team may as well have had a bye during its
first-round state playoff game. But because it didn’t, the
Eagles had to settle for pounding the Bend Lava Bears instead.
The Eagles blasted off to a huge first-quarter lead and never
took their foot off the gas in a 16-2 win.
The Eagles led 9-1 after one quarter and the Lava Bears never
had a chance to get back in it as HRV dominated time of
possession throughout.
Peter Debbaut won 10 of his 11 faceoff attempts and Drew Lamaita
and Tanner Boudreau also won faceoffs for the Eagles.
Jacob Bohince led the offensive explosion for the Eagles with
five goals and an assist. Eli Camero added three goals and two
assists, while Eli Pynch and Will Kline each added two goals.
“We showed a lot of confidence and moved the ball well,” HRV
coach Mac Jackson said.
The Eagles used a new defensive midfield combination of Mark
Troxel and Danny Mendez to frustrate Bend’s few offensive
attacks and carry the Eagles to an advantage in ground balls
collected.
The Eagles were expecting a tougher test at Tigard on Tuesday
night.
The Tigers received a first round bye after winning the North
Valley League with an undefeated league record and 14-4 mark on
the season. In their last regular season game the Tigers fell
13-5 to Sunset in a non-league game.
“It should be a great game,” Jackson said.
Jackson feels that having to go on the road to play a tough
non-league schedule will come in handy now that the Eagles face
a tough road schedule for the rest of the playoffs.
“It’s good preparation because we’ve already seen some good
quality teams,” he said.
Tuesday’s game is scheduled for 8 p.m in Tigard.
A victory would send the Eagles to either Glencoe or Lake Oswego
on Thursday.
