Friday may not have been the greatest of days for
HRV pitcher/outfielder Elliott Sherrell, but what he learned
after the Eagles finished their game against Tualatin made it
into a pretty good one.
In the team huddle after the game, HRV coach
Chris Albertson informed Sherrell that he had been named
co-Mount Hood Conference Player of the Year with Barlow catcher
Derrick Hough after league coaches went through several rounds
of deadlocked voting.
“It was awesome,” Sherrell said. “Getting that
award makes my day.”
Sherrell finished the season 4-1 from the mound
and hit .453 from the plate to give the Eagles a potent weapon
wherever he played. In addition to being named co-player of the
year, he was named to first team All-Conference as an
outfielder, and received an honorable mention for his pitching.
Other Eagles honored included Jeremy Rowley,
second team outfield; Travis Carratt, second team first base;
Jordan Bryant, honorable mention infield and Thomas Nickel,
honorable mention catcher.
