The Hood
River 14U Senior American team beat Sandy Monday night 7-5 to
improve its record to 8-4.
Pitchers
Nick Weekly and Brandon Dominguez kept Sandy's bats mostly
silent through five innings, allowing only one run. Hood River
used a four-run outburst in the third inning on four consecutive
extra base hits by Brandon Dominguez, Nick Weekly, Oscar Anaya
and Billy Edwards to take control of the game.
Hood
River added its final run in the fifth on a solo home run by
Ryan Wheat. Sandy mounted a comeback in the sixth by scoring
four runs.
Ty
Bofferding came in with the bases loaded in the seventh and got
the next Sandy hitter to fly out to center fielder Billy
Edwards, who caught the sinking fly ball on the run and kept the
runner on third from advancing.
The next
hitter grounded back to the mound and Bofferding threw home,
where catcher Oscar Anaya made the force-out and threw to first
baseman Wheat to complete the game-ending double play.
The
team’s next home game is June 16.
