Local programs honored for academic work

 Horizon Christian and Hood River Valley High School both had teams at the top of the annual Dairy Farmers of Oregon Academic All-State Awards for the spring season.

Hood River Valley was honored for four activities – girls golf, boys tennis, band and choir, while Horizon was honored for boys golf. The HRV girls golf team had the highest GPA of the local teams, with a 3.74 and seventh place in 6A.

HRV boys tennis team had a 3.65 and fifth place at 6A. Horizon golf was sixth at 1A with a 3.62. HRV’s band program was fifth at 6A with a 3.57 and HRV’s choir tied for eighth in 6A with a 3.48.

Other local programs making the statewide 3.0+ list included HRV baseball with a 3.07, HRV softball with a 3.23, HRV girls track with a 3.50, HRV boys golf with a 3.05, HRV girls tennis with a 3.55 and HRV speech with a 3.52.

The top GPA by any team in the state belonged to 5A Summit’s girls golf team with a 3.96.
