Steve Castagnoli will present at the next HR Watershed Group meeting, 7 p.m. at the OSU Extension meeting room, 2990 Experiment Station Drive, HR.
Castagnoli has been the local OSU Extension agent for the past 12 years. During this time, he has worked extensively with orchardists in the Hood River Watershed to implement pesticide management practices that reduce impacts to the water quality of local rivers and streams. He has also promoted a Valley-wide integrated pest management strategy that utilizes a non-chemical method to prevent coddling moth infestations of pear and apple crops.
Highlights of his talk will include spray application techniques that reduce drift to sensitive areas, creating unsprayed vegetated buffers along orchard perimeters, and a Best Management Practices Outreach Program that includes training for Spanish-speaking pesticide applicators.
The public is welcome to attend this free event.
