The Portland Building: Should It Stay or Go?

Radical yet whimsical. Groundbreaking yet flawed. Audacious yet ridiculous. Renowned yet reviled. The Portland Building, Michael Graves’ colorful Post-Modern icon, was conceived in controversy and born into both praise and ridicule. It has never known a moment’s peace since. It was heralded in 1982 as the design that ushered in a new era of world architecture and later, in 2011, designated a landmark. Critics want to demolish it. Preservationists want to save it. Into that fray jump Portland architects Becca Cavell and Peter Meijer in a spirited point/counter-point debate on the fate of the Portland Building. Tickets: $5 suggested donation at the door with beer and wine available for purchase.
