Columbia Gorge Bluegrass Festival
2014 marks the 31st anniversary of the Columbia Gorge Bluegrass Festival, and the celebration boasts some of the biggest stars in bluegrass -- the James King Band, John Reischman and the Jaybirds, Bryan Bowers, Dan Crary and Thundernation. They join the Great Northern Planes, Sam Hill, the Barn Door Slammers, and The Green Mountain Bluegrass Band July 24-27 when the event hits the Skamania County Fairgrounds in scenic Stevenson, WA, located just 45 minutes from Portland.
Look for the 2014 Show to carry on the traditions that make this festival one of the best bluegrass events in the Northwest. The Festival officially kicks off with the fan-favorite Jammers Jamboree on Thursday night. The evening features great talent on the stage and sweet specials in the beer and wine garden, too. The good times continue with nightly dances and a stellar Gospel Show on Sunday. Festival guests have the opportunity to participate in the Annual Instrument Contest, Band Scramble, workshops for all ages including the Chick Rose Kid’s Academy, and plenty of jamming throughout. Visitors will be treated to an assortment of fine craft and music related booths, delicious food, and micro brew beers presented by Laginitas Brewing Company.
New this year, the Columbia Gorge Fiddle Contest will be held on the Fairgrounds in conjunction with the Festival. The activities commence Wednesday, July 23 with a series of workshops, continued by the competition July 24-25. Registration and event details can found on Facebook.
Recent studies demonstrate a link between early music education and a higher level of life-long learning skills. The Festival wishes to strengthen this bond and offer thanks to their supportive community by continuing to offer a portion of their sponsorship funding to the Stevenson High School Band program.
The Festival is generously sponsored by Skamania County, The City of Stevenson, Skamania Lodge, Subway, Eastman Guitars, and Lagunitas Brewing.
