Concert: The Brigham Young University Singers

With flawless phrasing and exacting intonation, the Brigham Young University Singers have won international competitions and built worldwide relationships with choral musicians and audience members alike. The superb performance abilities of this 40-voice ensemble will create a must-see concert. The BYU Singers are grounded in classic choral tradition, but extend their talent to pieces of various periods and styles. International folk songs, hymns, and moving African-American spirituals are a sampling of the genres included in the group’s repertoire. The spirit of the music is beautifully expressed by the members of the choir, and once the concert begins, the diverse talents and professionalism of the BYU Singers is apparent. Dr. Ronald J. Staheli, founding conductor of the choir, has led the group since its creation in 1984. Staheli carefully selects pieces for their programs and edits and arranges the music performed. The BYU Singers have traveled to over 27 countries throughout the world, including Russia, Romania, Hungary, Austria, England, Italy, Israel, Egypt, New Zealand, and South Africa. Most recently the choir toured Wales, England, where it sang its impressive set in world-renowned locations. This summer, the singers will showcase their voices in the northwestern portion of the United States as they sing for audiences in Washington and Oregon. The BYU Singers have received numerous awards and honors from performing in choir festivals, exclusive conferences, and the most prestigious concert halls in the world. Tickets are available at Waucoma Bookstore in Hood River and Klindt’s Booksellers in The Dalles.
