Tsoko Youth Marimba Workshop and Performance

Visit the Hood River Library on Saturday, November 10 at 2 p.m. for a performance by Tsoko Youth Marimba followed by a workshop at 3:15 with group instructor Karin Tauscher.

Tsoko Youth Marimba is a group of Gorge youth, ages 8-18, who take classes with Karin Tauscher at the Musango Marimba Center in Hood River.

They play upbeat, family-friendly dance music from Zimbabwe and Southern Africa on African- style marimbas, which are large wooden xylophones in the ranges of Soprano, Tenor, Baritone and Bass. Karin has been teaching this style of music to youth and adults for the past 20 years, and also performs with the Portland band, Boka Marimba.

She will be teaching an introductory, one hour marimba workshop after Tsoko’s performance, open to youth and adults ages 8 and up. In the workshop, students will learn the layout of the marimba, a little background about the music, and then will learn to play a fun and easy song together as an ensemble. Preregistration is recommended as the workshop is limited to 12 participants. Please contact the library by telephone, email or in person to register.

This program is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the Hood River County Library District at 541-386-2535, info@hoodriverlibrary.org, or visit their website at http://hoodriverlibrary.org
