their band name suggests, Matt Coughlin and the Growlers

set to get you in the mood to enjoy some local brews.
Double
Mountain
Brewery is located at
8 Fourth St.,
Hood River.

and is free to the public.
Live at The Dive is
just what the name describes; a live recording of Matt
Coughlin and the Growlers at The High Dive in
Seattle. No overproduction, no edits and yes, a
few mistakes here and there. It’s exactly what the band
wanted; an album that demonstrates the pure energy of
their live performances.
“We’ve come a long way in
the last couple of years,” said Matt Coughlin. “We started
out with a rock/pop vibe and then things changed when
Mitch and Kim joined the band. We gravitated towards funk
and country, or ‘funktry’ as we like to call it. There’s
still a heavy dose of pop and folk, but it comes across
differently with the instrumentation. The songwriting has
grown and so have we, as a band. The experiences we’ve had
in life and in music have an effect on our capability and
outlook and I think one can hear this journey with Live at
the Dive.”
Matt Coughlin and the Growlers will
also be celebrating their award-winning members. Two of
the four members just received The Weekly Volcano’s “Best
of Tacoma 2010” award. Dalton Shotwell received “Best
Drummer in Tacoma” and
Mitch Vandenburg received “Best Bassist in
Tacoma.” With a solid music background, Matt
Coughlin and the Growlers easily span the gaps between
roots folk, pop rock, funk, and country. The result is a
harmonious, jam filled window into the wandering soul.
Coughlin’s approach to writing lends itself to the stories
of his personal experiences. Soul searching lyrics and
emotive vocals are accompanied by a raw, gritty groove
from Coughlin’s guitar and fellow band mates: Mitch
Vandenburg on bass, Kim Coleman on violin, and Dalton
Shotwell on drums. Matt Coughlin and the Growlers have a
number of energy filled performances under their belt, and
are excited to add a few more with their latest album
release tour.
Matt Coughlin has toured extensively
in the northwest, sharing the stage with Martin Sexton,
Chris Trapper, Curt Kirkwood, Eric McFadden Trio, James
Whiton and the Downtown Apostles, Cliff Eberhardt, and
Friday Mile. Coughlin has captivated audiences at popular
scenes such as Jazzbones, ToST, The Triple Door, The
Tractor Tavern, and Nectar. For more information, please
