Cooper Spur Race Team starts season

The Cooper Spur Race Team is up and running again this year.

The local youth ski racing team will kick off the season with its annual Cooper Camp Dec. 27-31. Camp fees are $150 and include supervised instruction for the week. Plus, on the last day, participants will have the opportunity to be timed in an authentic ski race, the Cooper Cup.

Cooper Camp will be held at Cooper Spur Ski Area, weather permitting. Camp requirements are ski gear (including a helmet), lift tickets, plus the ability to ride the T-bar or parent supervision.

After Cooper Camp, skiers can also join the Ski Education Program or become a Mini Mite Racer. The program will run through mid-February and lessons will be held every Saturday except Jan. 12 and Jan. 26. Fees for this program are $250, including participation in the Cooper Camp, and $135 without camp.

CSRT is also offering a Mini Mite Racing Program, which includes Cooper Camp and six races that run into April. Mini Mite racing consists of weekend training when races aren’t scheduled, and eligibility for the Buddy Werner Team. Fees are $300 if paid before Dec. 31 and $350 thereafter. Requirements for this program are ski gear (including a helmet), plus face, shin and pole guards for older racers, lift tickets, and USSA Membership.
