Special Olympics plans Sept. 29 fundraiser

Step Up for Special Olympics is open to all athletes and benefits a great cause

Special Olympics Program is seeking help, and sponsoring a family-oriented fundraiser on Sept. 29.

Currently there are not enough funds available to cover the costs of training programs, hotel rooms for athletes at the State competitions, transportation to the Olympic events, local award ceremonies, and the ski program can't fund all the athletes that want to participate. We have organized "Step up For Special Olympics", an event to raise funds to help our local special athletes participate in their sports program.

Step Up For Special Olympics will be Sept. 29, and costs $15 per participant and includes an event t-shirt. This is an event for everyone in the family, even the dog. Choose from:

1. Run, walk or stroll 5K or 10K starting at the Hood River Trailhead on the Columbia River Historic Hwy.

2. Kids on Wheels is a 4K route and any child may participate on wheels; strollers, scooters, roller blades, bikes, skates, skateboards, etc.

3. Bring your dog and leash and together dash 4K or 8K.

Entry forms with all the details are at Full Sail Brew Pub, Gorge Dog, Holsteins (in Hood River and The Dalles), Stones Ski and Sports, Hood River Sports Club, The Dalles Fitness and Court Club, Bette's Restaurant, and Hood River Bagel Shop.

Donations can also be made to to Special Olympics, PO Box 251, Mosier, OR 97040.
