Boy Scouts want to share outdoors

Tired of hearing your kids say, “There’s nothing to do”? Looking for a way to get them outside this spring and summer? The local Boy Scouts of America chapter is looking for new members and will be hosting an open house from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, April 8, at St. Mary’s Church at 1501 Belmont. Troop 741 meets every Monday at St. Mary’s in the basement of the church or the school building. The next big group outing will be the District Camporee — “The Rescue from Scout Mountain.” Please call Scoutmaster Larry Broschart at 386-9354 with questions about the Boy Scouts or the Camporee.

Indian Creek women’s golf Thursday

The Indian Creek women’s golfers will open the season Thursday, beginning with a meeting at 8:45 a.m. The draw will be held at 9:15 a.m. and play will begin at 9:30 a.m. Annual $30 dues should be paid by the beginning of the meeting. You may also mail them to Clara Rice at P.O. Box 345, Odell, OR 97044. Also, a reminder that Thursday, April 11, is guest day. A scramble will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by a no-host lunch at Divots. Call Darlene at 387-2750 with questions.

Boat safety course at CGCC

Space still remains for the upcoming Boat Oregon boating safety course, to be held at Columbia Gorge Community College on April 9, 18, 23 and 30 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. A boating field trip on May 4 is included. Students who pass the course can apply for their boater education card as required by Oregon’s Mandatory Boater Education program. The course will cover practical boating safety information, regional and local boating rules and tips and techniques that will make the boating experience even more fun. Cost is $60 per student and preregistration is required. Call the college at 541-298-3112.

Youth lacrosse begins this week

Elementary and middle-school kids are encouraged to turn out for Hood River’s fastest-growing sport. Youth lacrosse tryouts began Tuesday at Westside, and will continue Thursday. Rules will be explained and players will learn all the fundamentals, including catching, passing, shooting and stick

handling. Tryouts are free of charge, but some equipment purchase is required. A few scholarships are available. Tryouts open to kids grades 3-5 and 6-8. Practices will be every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15-5 p.m. at Westside. Call Will Griffith at 386-7614 with questions.

Bed Pan Open tournament date set

Teams and sponsors are already lining up for the 12th Annual Bed Pan Open Golf Tournament, set for May 11 at Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River. Sponsored by the Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital Foundation, the yearly event starts at 8 a.m. and boasts refreshments, prizes, a box lunch and a commemorative gift. Proceeds from this year’s tournament will be used to purchase a new mammography machine at the hospital.
