Lacrosse fundraiser BBQ Friday

The Hood River Lacrosse Club will hold a fundraising barbecue Friday at Henderson Stadium before the team’s game against Lincoln. The grills will be hot and ready to serve burgers and brats at 4:45 p.m., so stop by and support the lacrosse team as it makes its playoff push. Varsity game starts at 7 p.m. Call Barbara Williams at 386-5640 with questions.

Cooper Spur racers win awards

Four members of the Cooper Spur Race Team received plaques for their outstanding performances at this year’s spring series. Hannah Young of Hood River, and Jacqueline Wiles, Maggie Greene and Aidan Jensen of Portland were each honored for their achievements this season.

Airtime wrestlers compete at state

Four members of the local Airtime Wrestling Club competed and medaled at the Oregon State High School Freestyle and Greco Roman championships April 20-21 at Redmond High School. Josh Van Ek (112) and Jason DeHart (160) each won fourth place in Greco, while Jorge Lujano (275) and Rocky Level (140) each won sixth place in Greco. DeHart and Lujano also placed fifth in Freestyle in their respective weight classes.

Dynamos tryouts this weekend

The local Dynamos Soccer Club will be holding annual

observation/try-out days at Westside School on the following dates. Boys 15-and-under will try out Sunday from 2-4 p.m.; boys 14-and-under will try out Monday, May 6, at 6 p.m.; and girls 14-and-under (born on or after Aug. 1, 1988) will try out Wednesday, May 8, at 6 p.m. If your child has not already registered, he or she may register the day of the tryouts. Bring $60, a 2 x 2 picture, a copy of the player’s birth certificate and soccer gear. Any questions, call Jim Tedford at 386-9271.

Indian Creek Day’s Play update

The women of Indian Creek got together last Thursday for a game of “Fairway Shots,” which counts all shots minus putts and handicaps. Clara Rice took first place, Vera Hawk second, and Jo Smith, Sara Starnes and Kathi Guthrie third. Also, a correction for the April 18 Day’s Play: Carol Emmerson finished first with a score of 32.5.

Sign up in the Pro Shop today for the Spring Handicap Tournament, to be held May 16 at Indian Creek. Cost is $10.

Special Olympics golf coaches needed

The Mid Columbia Special Olympics chapter is seeking volunteer golf coaches to help with the local team this spring. Training starts on Monday, May 6, at Indian Creek, from 5-7 p.m. Call Carole Schmidt at 541-478-3716 if interested.
