Al Flory, Sr.
Parkdale resident Al Flory died Dec. 8, 2002, at the Hood River Care Center, in Hood River, Ore. He was 83 years of age.
Graveside services and interment will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at the Upper Valley Cemetery in Parkdale, Ore., at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center.
Mr. Flory was born Nov. 16, 1919, to Edward and Caroline (Gritz) Flory in Browerville, Minnesota. He was raised and educated in Minnesota and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the war he moved to the Hood River Valley. On May 1, 1948, he and Hazel Huckaby were married in Hood River. Al worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator. He was involved with the construction of Hwy. 35, Interstate 84 and Lost Lake Road. He was a 56-year member of Operating Engineers Local 701. Al was a member of the Parkdale VFW and a former member of the American Legion. He enjoyed farming, raising animals and collecting and rebuilding farm machinery.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel, of Parkdale; son, Alvin Flory, Jr. of Parkdale; daughter, Brenda Meyers and her husband, Gene, of Hood River; sons Perry Flory and his wife, Cherie, and Bradley Flory of Hood River, and Sharon Flory of Hood River; and his brother, Dick Flory of Wenatchee, Wash. He is also survived by his best friend Ivan Hardman, brother in laws William and Ernie Huckaby and George Pfaff and sister in law Shirley Pfaff; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and his dog “Pepper” also survive.

Gladys Rebecca Long, a Hood River, Ore., resident, died Dec. 4, 2002, at her residence. She was 89 years of age.
Services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center. Visitation will be held on Tuesday Dec. 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center.
Gladys was born Nov. 6, 1913, in Edinburg, Mo., to Harley and Laura (Williams) Davidson. She was raised and educated in Edinburg, and attended Robertson School. In 1934, she and Herman O. Long were married. They moved to Hood River in 1945. Gladys worked at Diamond Fruit Company for 35 years until her retirement in 1980. She enjoyed her children, gardening and garage sales.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Long; sisters Georgia McCullin, Zelma H. Chadwick and Olive Long, sons Jack and Calvin Long and great-great-grandson Kristen Grant Muma. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Lee Arbuckle and her husband Robert of Hood River, and Marilyn Jean Smith and her husband Aubrey of Odessa, Texas, and her son, Delbert O. Long of Hood River.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Donna Marie Dawson, Teresa Sinclair, Brenda Marie Walters, Tamera Snyder, Staff Sgt. Clifford Daniel Neighbors, Amy Janel Bailey, Kristina Marie Smith, Jessy Lee Rose, Chad Long and Randi Long.
Fifteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews also survive. Vault interment will be at Mt. View Cemetery.
