JV boys win first game vs. Douglas

The HRV boys JV basketball team won its first game of the season on Tuesday at David Douglas, but fell to Gresham Thursday night at home to go to 1-4 (scores not available at press time). They nearly got their first win last Saturday, taking Clackamas to overtime on a half-court buzzer beater by Jeremy Belcher at the end of regulation, but eventually fell 69-62.

Meadows finally opens its lifts

Mt. Hood Meadows announced Wednesday that it is officially open, with the Mt. Hood Express and Shooting Star Express high-speed quads now serving anxious skiers and boarders. As of Wednesday, the resort had a base depth of 28 inches, and nearly four feet of snow on the upper mountain. Night operations began Friday and Safeway Saturday night begins tonight from 4-10 p.m. Visit www.skihood.com for more information.

Gorge Tours snowshoe trip today

Snow is finally here and Julee’s Gorge Tours is looking for people to sign up for a Mt. Hood snowshoe trip today at 9:30 a.m. Distance is between 3-6 miles and cost (including guides, equipment, lunch and snacks) is $45. Carpools will meet at Airtime Clothing in downtown Hood River. Julee’s is also sponsoring a cross-country ski clinic for beginner and intermediate skiers on Sunday, Dec. 29, at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $45 and includes instructors, equipment, lunch and more.

HRV baseball needs coaching help

HRV baseball coach Gerry Flink is looking for two coaches to manage the JV and freshman ballclubs this spring. Practices begin in late February. For more information or to apply, call Athletic Director Mitch Sanders at 386-2318.

HRV lacrosse program seeks assistant

New Hood River Valley High School varsity lacrosse coach Mac Jackson is looking for a JV coach for the upcoming spring season. Anyone interested in helping build one of the valley’s newest and most exciting sports programs should call Jackson at 386-1232.

HR pool celebrates holiday hours

The Hood River Aquatic Center will be celebrating the season with special open swims from 1-5 p.m. Dec. 26 through Jan. 3. The pool will be operating on holiday hours 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31, and will be closed Christmas and New Year’s. For more information, call 386-1303.

3-on-3 men’s hoops league upcoming

Hood River Community Education will be sponsoring a men’s 3-on-3 basketball league this winter. Games will be played on Tuesday nights at Wy’east Middle School in Odell

beginning Jan. 14. Each team plays two half-court games per week. Fee is $50 per team and registrations are being taken now. For more, call 386-2055.
