As I mentioned during our "warm" discussion in your office yesterday, I take great offense at your modification of my letter before printing. The end result of your "editing" was to make it a collection of disjointed thoughts and babble, exactly as intended. Although this result certainly caused my letter to closely resemble many of your news articles, my standard is much higher. I had planned to request that you re-print my letter in its original form. However, I believe that the printing of the portions you removed "to comply with paper policy and meet space restrictions are much more revealing as to the bias of your paper. The deleted portions are as follows:
"Lucky for them, we have a newspaper that will not mention any irregularities -- your motto seems to be "the end justifies any means." Of course your ability to be considered part of the `In Group' is determined by your reporting slant.
The question now is, who will be the next target as we proceed to make the changes necessary for Hood River to fit the vision of the `In Group'? We already know that they will use the annexation to attempt to destroy the Ice Fountain Water District and the Westside Fire Department. Oh, yes. I also ran across an internal memo that Council (Member Chuck) Haynie is now targeting mobile homes.
You cannot help but wonder if the `In Group' envisions busing people from Mosier and The Dalles as the ultimate goal for Hood River, much like Aspen, Colo. But `those people,' the riff-raff, who will not be able to afford to live here, will still be necessary to run their business."
The defense rests.
