Little league all-star tryouts this week

Tryout dates have been set for girls and boys little league all-stars.

Girls 9-10 will be Saturday at 10 a.m. or Monday at 6 p.m., both at the HR softball field.

Girls 11-12 will be Saturday at noon at the HR softball field, or Monday at 6 p.m. at the Odell field.

Boys 11-12 will be Saturday at 10 a.m. or Tuesday at 6 p.m., both at the HR baseball field.

Players only need attend one tryout. Please bring a copy of player’s birth certificate. Call Becky at 387-3777 with questions.

Hood River Heat takes third place

The Hood River Heat girls fast-pitch softball team combined strong pitching and timely hitting to take third place at a 16-A tournament June 1-2 in Newberg. Jennifer Delaney pitched all four games as the Heat posted a 2-2 record, with one of the losses coming against the eventual champion Salem Tremors. Ashley Carter led the offense with three hits and was helped out by Michelle Connors, Bethany Hoikka and Mallory Thomsen with two apiece. The Heat heads to Bend this weekend for the Bend Blowout — a tournament they won last year in the U-14 division.

Ezzy to appear at Windance Friday

David Ezzy of Ezzy Sails will make an appearance on the Windance lawn Friday at 7 p.m. Stop by for an evening of fun, food, contests and prizes. Call 386-2131 with questions.

Junior tennis team seeks players

Boys and girls looking to improve their tennis skills this summer are encouraged to sign up for the Hood River Junior Tennis Team, coached by HRV boys tennis coach Shayla Moline. The team will begin Monday and Wednesday practices on July 8, and will play matches on Fridays. Age divisions are 12-and-under, 15-and-under, and 17-and-under. Open to all ability levels. Mountain Valley Basketball Camp

Local high-school basketball coaches will work with boys and girls entering grades 4-12 at a four-day basketball camp, held at HRVHS the week of June 17. Grades 4-7 will play from 9-11:30 a.m., and grades 8-12 from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $40 per player and includes a T-shirt. Call 386-2055 with questions.

Gorge Youth Football taking apps

Hood River Community Education is now accepting registrations for the upcoming season of Gorge Youth Football, scheduled to begin July 29. Games will begin in August. Kids 12 and under are eligible (fourth graders only with coach permission), and cost is $50 per player. Each player will be issued a uniform, helmet and pads. Insurance information and birth certificates are required. Early registration is recommended. Last day is July 15. Call 386-2055 for more information.

Seattle Mariners bus trip scheduled

Hood River Community Education is trying to put together a group of devoted Seattle Mariner fans to travel to Safeco Field on a commercial bus Sunday, July 28. A total of 42 upper-deck seats along the first-base side have been reserved for the game against the Anaheim Angels. Cost is $65 per person. The bus will leave Hood River at 7:30 a.m. and return around 10 p.m. Call 386-2055.

Tennis lessons in The Dalles

The registration deadline for tennis youth lessons in The Dalles has been extended until Friday. The Northern Wasco County Parks and Recreation District will be offering quality youth tennis instruction beginning June 17 at The Dalles High School. Cost is $20 for eight hours of instruction. Two age classes will be offered: Kids ages 11-17 will meet from 9-10 a.m., and kids 7-10 years old will meet from 10-11 a.m. Fontact NWCPRD at 541-296-9533 with questions.
