The Hood River Valley girls tennis team was unable to overcome the absence of a few key players Friday, losing at home to Summit (6-2) and Mountain View (5-2).
No. 3 singles player Emily Sager was out of the lineup, along with senior Brittany Reed and junior Jessica Young, which forced coach Barb Hosford to shuffle some people around.
HRV’s No. 4 singles player Michi Aniwanter teamed up with Reed’s No. 2 doubles partner Elie Meierbachtol, and helped earn one of HRV’s four match victories — a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 win over Summit.
The No. 1 doubles team of seniors Corinne Oates and Ashley Nunamaker won both its matches on the day by scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.
No. 1/2 singles player Gena Folts picked up HRV’s fourth win, defeating Amy Smith of Mountain View by a score of 6-1, 6-1.
Senior Jodie Gates traded off with Folts in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, and lost both her matches.
Senior Lindsay Brown played No. 3 singles, while freshman Erin Hart handled the No. 4 singles duties. The two losses dropped the Eagles’ Intermountain Conference record to 1-2. However, they have two weeks to prepare for an April 25-26 road trip to Bend, Redmond and Crook County.
