Founder’s Cup Golf Tourney Aug. 16

The fourth-annual Founder’s Cup Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, at Indian Creek Golf Course. The Columbia Gorge Community College benefit tournament will start at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Format is a four-person, best ball scramble, and prizes will be awarded for longest drive and closest to pin. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams for low gross and low net scores. A buffet lunch will also be served at Divot’s Restaurant. In addition, contestants will have a chance to win a new 2003 Dodge Neon SXT from C.H. Urness Motors if they shoot a hole-in-one. Couples scramble at Indian Creek

The second couples scramble of the summer will take place Sunday at Indian Creek Golf Course. Shotgun start begins at 5:30 p.m. and anyone is invited. Call the Pro Shop at 386-7770 with questions or to sign up.

Adult co-ed soccer league in the works

Men and women interested in playing in an adult co-ed soccer league this fall are asked to contact Lisa Knight as soon as possible. A minimum of 60 players are needed to create four teams, and all ages and skill levels are welcome. Games would be played at Wy’east and the Hood River Marina, and play would begin in early September. Cost per player would be $15 or $20, depending on field costs and referee fees. 2nd Wind offers free use of kayaks

2nd Wind in downtown Hood River is currently offering free trial use of its new inflatable Ocean Kayaks. For people who aren’t yet sure about using a playboat in whitewater, or those just want to try flatwater kayaking, these are the boats for you. HRV girls soccer teams practicing early

The Hood River Valley girls soccer team will hold a conditioning clinic at Westside Field, Wednesday through Friday from 8-10 a.m. The clinic is open to all girls entering grades 9-12, and is free of charge. Players are asked to bring water and come “ready to play soccer.” Call Sue Farro at 509-493-4569 with questions.

The HRV boys soccer team will also be holding a skills and conditioning camp next week at Westside Field. All players in grades 9-12 should turn out Tuesday through Thursday from 6-8 p.m. If you have questions, call Doug Beveridge at 386-9476.

Renee Hanks to teach kiting clinic

Due to the tremendous success of the first adult kiteboarding clinic, Skamania County Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a second clinic on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rock Creek Recreation Center in Stevenson, Wash. Hosted by professional kiteboarder Renee Hanks, the land-based class is geared toward the beginner or first-time kite flyer. Cost is $50 per person and comfortable shoes are suggested. Free sports physicals Aug. 16 at HRV

Free sports physicals will be offered at HRVHS on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon. All Gorge-area high school and middle school students are invited to attend. The event is co-sponsored by Columbia Gorge Family Medicine, Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital, and Skyline Physical Therapy.

Daily doubles begin Monday, Aug. 18 at HRVHS for football, soccer, volleyball and cross-country. Any players who have not signed up should attend the Fall Sports Night on Wednesday, Aug. 13, or call 386-2318 with questions.
