Gorge Cup event today at Hood River Event Site

The final installment of the Gorge Cup will take place this weekend at the Hood River Event Site.

The Gorge Cup Windsurfing Series will complete its summer-long run this weekend with the biggest race of the season.

Local competitor Bruce Peterson said that, wind permitting, a slalom race is planned for Saturday and a course race is planned for Sunday.

“The forecast for this weekend looks unreal,” said Peterson, who currently sits second in the Gorge Cup standings behind Dale Cook. “It sounds like we might have ideal winds both days.”

To make things even more exciting, the U.S. Windsurfing National Tour will be rolling through town, which could increase the field to 45 sailors, as opposed to the typical 25-sailor field.

“This will be the biggest race of the year by far,” Peterson said. “Lots of people are coming down from Canada and the Bay Area, and it should be competitive.”

Cook currently leads the Gorge Cup series with 74.06 points in seven races. Peterson is second at 198.16 and Anil Rajani is third with 227.86 points.
