It’s about time!
After months of waiting, the Summit Snowboard Team was finally able to compete in a sanctioned race on Thursday at Mt. Hood Meadows.
And, much as they have done over the past four years, the boys and girls teams completely and totally dominated the field.
Defending state champion Ben Connors led the boys Varsity I team with a first-place overall finish and a time of 26.72 seconds.
Teammate Paul Rovianek finished sixth with a time of 29.00, while Tad Hukari took 10th (29.41), Colin Franger 11th (29.53), and Finny England 24th (31.34) to round out the Varsity I times.
Josh Blanchette finished eighth overall (29.19) to lead the Varsity II team, and was followed by Neal Regentin in 23rd (31.07), Michael Clement (32.18), Owen Carney (33.40), Ian Meyer (34.32) and Dana Keleher (34.97).
The Summit girls also cleaned up, taking six of the top eight places. Senior Meghan Ferns finished second overall with a time of 30.49, and was followed in third by junior Lisa Page (31.09), and in fourth by senior Michi Aniwanter (32.50).
Mariam Appel finished fifth (33.54), Komisa Schwartzel seventh (34.72) and Grace Rickenbach eighth (35.78).
Both Summit teams are preparing for a Slopestyle/half pipe event on Thursday at Meadows, and will follow that up with another Slopestyle on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 9 a.m.
