HRV boys hoops fundraiser Tuesday

The HRV boys basketball program has teamed up with Stonehedge Gardens to offer a fundraising dinner on Tuesday before the Eagles duke it out with The Dalles. Tickets are $10 and can be obtained at the high school or by calling 386-2318. Dinner begins at 5 p.m. Sign up today and support a program on the rise.

Conference openers next weekend

The HRV boys and girls basketball teams open the Intermountain Conference season on Friday, Jan. 10, against Redmond. The girls will host Redmond at 7 p.m. Friday, and then will host Bend on Saturday at 2:45 p.m. The boys play the same schedule on the road.

HR Billiards tournament on Jan. 11

Hood River Billiards will host a New Year’s Open 9-ball tournament on Saturday, Jan. 11, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Warmups begin at 9 a.m. and cost is $20 per player. Format is a race to seven, double-elimination, and the event will run the entire day. All ages and ability levels welcome. Sandwiches and soft drinks will be available. Spectators are welcome. Also, a sixth table will be added due to the increasing popularity of the facility.

** 13-year-old Alex London of White Salmon won the Hood River Billiards “Most Improved Under 18” award for his performance in the December Open 9-ball tournament. London will receive a free entry into the Jan. 11 tournament for his accomplishment.

ASA softball tryouts at HRVHS

The Hood River Heat 16-and-under girls ASA softball team will be holding tryouts for next season on Sunday, Jan. 12, at

2 p.m. in the Hood RIver Valley High School gymnasium. All interested players are asked to turn out. For more information, please call Mike Hoikka at 354-2144.

3-on-3 men’s hoops league upcoming

Hood River Community Education will be sponsoring a men’s 3-on-3 basketball league this winter. Games will be played on Tuesday nights at Wy’east Middle School in Odell

beginning Jan. 14. Each team plays three half-court games per week. Fee is $50 per team and registrations are being taken now. For more, call 386-2055.

Singles-only snowshoe/XC adventure

Julee’s Gorge Tours will sponsor a “Singles Only” snowshoe or cross-country ski adventure on Saturday, Jan. 18, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Join other single outdoorsy people and get a great workout while you’re at it. No experience necessary. Cost is $42 per person, which includes gear, lunch, snacks and guides (only $32 is you have your own gear). The group will meet at 2nd Wind Sports at 210 Oak St. in Hood River. For more information, visit

** Julee’s is now offering affordable, brand-name snowshoe and cross-country ski rentals for $12 a day. Cost includes poles, gaiters and boots (XC only).

Fundraising tennis tourney at HRSC

Support the Noah Smith Rehabilitation Fund by signing up for a benefit tennis tournament Jan. 29-Feb. 2 at the Hood River Sports Club. Registration deadline is 5 p.m. on Jan. 24, and cost is $25 per person. Format is best two out of three sets, and will be played under USTA rules. A consolation round will also be held. Play begins on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 4 p.m. Players must call for their own starting times, which will be available after noon on Jan. 27. Call 386-3230 with questions.
