Children’s Chorus holds auditions

The Mid-Columbia Children’s Chorus, under the direction of Mark Steighner, is re-forming after a year’s hiatus. The community choir, formed in 1998, is open to any student in grades 5-8, including private and home schoolers.

Auditions will be held in the high school music room on Jan. 15 and 16 from 4-5 p.m. and Jan. 16 from 7-8 p.m. Students who cannot attend any of these simple auditions can contact Steighner at mdstg@gorge.net to arrange another time.

Weekly rehearsals begin in February. The choir meets one evening per week and performs music in a variety of styles.

Members do not need to be experienced music readers but they should be able to match pitch and sing on key. Members will be expected to commit to rehearsals and performances, and there will be a membership fee to help cover the cost of music.

The choir is open to all girls, and boys with unchanged voices. The group performs at two or three events during the year and this spring will participate in the premiere of a new composition. While there is no size limit for the choir, Steighner is hoping to recruit an ensemble of at least 24 singers.
