Pianist John Nilsen plays Saturday
Contemporary pianist John Nilsen will host a concert Saturday at 7 p.m. in the historic sanctuary of Asbury United Methodist Church, 616 State Street in Hood River. Nilsen is renowned for his melodic original compositions, and has toured extensively in the U.S., Great Britain and Japan.
A Northwest native who counts travel, the outdoors and family as rich sources of fuel for his creative drive, He describes himself as an innovative keyboardist who strives to create an intimate connection with his audience.
“As a performer, I like exploring beyond the boundaries of my recorded songs,” he says. “It gives me the chance to offer something special, spontaneous and personal to my audience.”

Missoula Theater presents
Life is no picnic when you stray from the trail! On Saturday, at 3 and 7 p.m. at Westside Elementary Gym in Hood River, join Red Riding Hood and her friends on a forest adventure when Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) and over 50 local students present an original musical adaptation of this classic tale.
The production is part of Missoula Children’s Theatre’s unique international touring project and is presented locally by CAST. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and are available in advance at Waucoma Bookstore, or at the door prior to each performance.

Sandy Peterson plays Stonehedge
Sandy Peterson will be playing piano and singing at Stonehedge Gardens on Saturday starting at 6 p.m. Peterson has been playing piano since she was in kindergarten and enjoys playing at her church and other venues all over the Columbia Gorge area. She plays a wide variety of music from ballads and swing to jazz pieces and even some country songs (without the twang.) Stonehedge Gardens has fine dining and wine to suit every taste. Gipsy Ale plays St. Patty’s Day
Santacroces Restaurant will be featuring the traditional Irish music for their 9th annual St. Patrick’s Day Party. The house band, ‘Gipsy Ale’ will perform their jig thumpin repertoire on Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. Reservations are recommended. For information, call 354-2511.
