Bassham aces No. 15 at Indian Creek
Hood River Valley High School teacher and long-time wrestling coach Keith Bassham scored his first-ever hole-in-one Monday at Indian Creek Golf Course. He accomplished the feat from the white tees on the 141-yard hole No. 15, using a 5 iron. According to the golf pros at Indian Creek, “No. 15 is the hardest par 3 on the course to score a hole in one.”
HRV lacrosse home opener changed
The Hood River Valley lacrosse team learned of another change in its schedule this weekend, when Hermiston asked to reschedule the teams’ April 2 match-up for April 12. That means HRV won’t play a home game until April 11 vs. Lincoln.
Monthly open 9-ball tourney Saturday
Hood River Billiards will host its monthly open 9-ball tournament this Saturday beginning at 10:15 a.m. Warmups will begin at 9 a.m. and cost is $20 per player. Coffee and refreshments will be available. A full field is expected, so early registration is recommended. Last month’s tourney attracted 26 players, and as many as 32 are expected this Saturday. HRWGA business meeting on April 1
The Hood River Women’s Golf Association will have a business meeting on Tuesday, April 1, at Hood River Golf and Country Club beginning at 9 a.m. A round of 18 holes will follow at 9:30 a.m., and will continue every Tuesday throughout April. All lady golfers are welcome to join. Dues for the year are $30 and should be paid now.
Indian Creek women’s golf meeting
Opening Day for the Indian Creek women’s golf association will be Thursday, April 3. A meeting is set for 8:15 a.m. and will be followed by Day’s Play at 9:30 p.m. Dues should be paid as soon as possible, and can be mailed to Clara Rice at P.O. Box 345, Odell, OR 97044. Any lady golfers are welcome to join.
Youth basketball camp coming soon
Youth basketball players in grades 4-8 are encouraged to sign up for the upcoming basketball skill development camps through Community Education. Led by former pro player and coach Art Kunigel, the two camps — April 7-11 (girls) and April 14-18 (boys) — will help players improve their guard play, post moves and defensive tactics. Cost is $30 per player and times are 6-8:30 p.m. at Hood River Middle School. Call Community Education at 386-2055 to sign up.
Lifeguard class begins April 7
Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation will be offering an American Red Cross water safety instructor course beginning with a pre-course session on Monday, April 7, at 1 p.m. The class will run April 7, 9, 14, 21, 23, 28 and 30 from 6-9 p.m. Students must also teach either April 15 or 17 from 5:15-7 p.m. Class prerequisites include being at least 17 years of age, and successfully passing the pre-course written and skills test.
