FBI nabs robbery suspect

The FBI has reportedly jailed a suspect believed to have committed April’s robbery of U.S. Bank in the Heights.

“We’ve been advised a suspect has been apprehended by federal authorities and we’re waiting for further information,” said Hood River County District Attorney John Sewell.

He said the federal agency had not yet released the identity of the alleged perpetrator but that name would most likely be made public in the near future. Sewell said because the money held in the bank was federally insured, the suspect will be prosecuted in a federal court.

In the early afternoon of April 1, a lone male fled on foot from the bank after using a demand note to gain an undisclosed amount of cash. Hood River law enforcement agencies converged on the scene and spent the next few hours searching nearby neighborhoods but were unable to locate the robber.

According to reports, the suspect was not wearing a mask when he presented the note to the teller and didn’t appear to be carrying a weapon. He was described as a Caucasian man between 25-35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing from 155 to 185 pounds. His clothing at the time included a green baseball cap with a tan or brown bill, possbily bearing a Nike swoosh, a black leather jacket, gray t-shirt, blue jeans and newer white tennis shoes with blue markings.
