Five HRV football players on first team

Five Hood River Valley football standouts were awarded with all-conference honors Monday at the Intermountain Conference coaches meeting. Juniors Bryan Williams (middle linebacker) and Luke McCarthy (outside linebacker) were joined by seniors Kyle Maurer (safety), Jorge Lujano (offensive tackle, defensive tackle), and Zach Royall (offensive tackle). Williams (tight end), McCarthy (offensive guard), Royall (defensive tackle) and Rocky Level (running back) were named to the second team. HRV also received nine honorable mentions. Girls soccer earns two first-team bids

Lisa Tedford and Acer Lopez of the HRV girls soccer team were both named to the Intermountain Conference first team after completing strong senior campaigns. Fellow senior Anna Hidle earned second-team honors, while freshman Justine Bryant and junior Emily Sager were awarded honorable mention.

Hood River Valley High School junior volleyball player Meghan Flink was awarded with an all-conference honorable mention at Monday’s Intermountain Conference coaches meeting.

Red Devils win adult co-ed league

The Red Devils defeated F.C. Hood, 3-2, last Sunday at Westside Field to win the Adult Co-Ed Soccer League championship. Both teams came into the game with a record of 4-2, and they had split the season series. F.C. Hood led 2-1 early in the second half after a penalty kick by Kyla Robinson. But the Red Devils reclaimed the lead on goals by Todd Kirschhofer and Brian Schurton. The third-place game was also scheduled for Sunday, but there weren’t enough players for an official game. In the end, the Bluebacks finished third and the Blancos finished fourth.

Fifth grade girls hoops starts tonight

All local fifth-grade girls are invited to develop their basketball skills with coach Art Kunigel, starting Wednesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Hood River Middle School. Fundamentals and team skills will be the focus, and the program is designed to help kids prepare for the Community Education season this winter. Practices will continue every Wednesday and Friday thought December. Cost is $1 per player, per day. If you have questions, please call Melissa Ing at 386-6789 or Bob Danko at 490-5581.

HRV ski sale this weekend at Westside

The Hood River Valley Ski Team will hold its annual Ski Sale this weekend at Westside Elementary. Check-in for equipment sellers will be Friday from 5-10 p.m. Sale hours will be Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. ($2 admission), and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The HRV ski team will keep 20 percent of all proceeds from the sale, and all sales are final.For more information, contact Cary Mallon at 386-4500 or coach Jessica Gunesch at 386-4672.

Time change for youth V-ball tryouts

The newly introduced Wind River Volleyball Club has changed its tryout date for 15-18 year-olds from Sunday, Nov. 9, to Sunday, Nov. 23. Tryouts for 10-12 and 13-14 year-olds took place last Sunday, while the 15-18 year-old tryouts will be held Nov. 23 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Hood River Valley High School. HRV alumni basketball tourney Nov. 29

The annual Hood River Valley High School alumni basketball game will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, beginning at 9 a.m. (Thanksgiving weekend). Cost is $15 per player and teams will be assigned. The tournament is open to all HRVHS alumni and interested community members. Call Phil Hukari at 386-4500 for more information.
