River’s Edge Towing worked with Hood River County Sheriff’s Office and Hood River Police to retrieve a 1991 Honda from the Hood River Tuesday. Driver Holly Spradlin, 15, accidentally drove the car into the river Friday afternoon in her first driving lesson, with the car’s owner, Spradlin’s step-mother, Elisabeth Curry. Both were unhurt. In the 90-minute operation, diver Mark Smith, a Sheriff’s Deputy, went into the water to hook two cables to the car, which was in about 17 feet of water. The tow truck lifted the car onto a bulkhead at the old Nichols Boatworks site.
