Hood River resident William “Bill” Parrish died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at Providence Portland Medical Center. He was 69 years of age.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time on Monday, Oct. 20.
Bill was born June 17, 1934, to William and Helene (Kindred) Parrish in Joplin, Mo. At the age of two years Bill moved with his family as they traveled west to find better work.
Eventually they settled in Hood River. He was raised and educated in the Hood River Valley and graduated from Wy’East High School.
Following his education Mr. Parrish joined the U.S. Army and served his country in the Korean Conflict.
During the war he was in an accident and broke his back. After healing from his injury Mr. Parrish stayed in the U.S. Army and started his career as an officer.
While stationed in Germany he met Heidi Herty whom he later married in April of 1961 in Stuttgart, Germany. He then served his country in the Vietnam War. Following the war Bill returned to San Francisco, Calif., where he was stationed for four years and eventually retired from the military in Oakland, Calif.
Following his retirement Bill moved his family back to Hood River in 1974 to be closer to family. Once in Hood River Bill started work with the school district as a janitor. He served with the School District for 10 years until health reasons forced him to retire.
In his spare time Mr. Parrish enjoyed fishing, walking, hiking, reading books and studying history. Bill was a member of the VFW.
Mr. Parrish is survived by his wife Heidi Parrish of Hood River, son Bill Parrish of Hood River, daughter Linda Kay Parrish of Ft. Irwin, Calif., grandson Andreas Hertz of Ft. Irwin, Calif., and numerous cousins.

Services for Donald Roberts were held last Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
