HRV boys host Lakeridge Saturday

The Hood River Valley boys soccer team will host Lakeridge at 2 p.m. Saturday at Westside Field. The Three Rivers League’s No. 2 seed finished with an identical record as No. 1 Clackamas, but lost a coin toss. HRV vs. Lakeridge is the only first-round matchup between two No. 2 seeds. The Pacers are also the team that knocked HRV out of the playoffs in 2001.

Winter sports night Wednesday at HRV

All Hood River Valley High School students interested in participating in basketball, wrestling, swimming or skiing are asked to attend the Winter Sports Night this Wednesday from

7-9 p.m. This is a chance to meet coaches, look at schedules and pay any required fees. Call 386-2318 with questions.

Indian Creek lady golfers winding down

Carol Knowles led the way for the Indian Creek lady golfers last Thursday with a score of 38.5 in a game of O.N.E.S., in which players shot only at the holes starting with O, N, E or S. Darlene Roberts and Irene Kiyokawa tied for second with 39, and Barb Zeller was third with 40. Golfers are reminded that the annual awards dinner will be held at Divots on Thursday,

Community Ed wrestling sign-ups

Hood River School District Community Education has scheduled youth wrestling times for boys and girls in grades K-6. Grades K-2 will meet starting this Saturday from 9:30-10:45 a.m., while grades 3-6 will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting Nov. 4 from 6-7:30 p.m. Both groups will meet in the HRVHS wrestling room, and the recommended attire is a T-shirt, gym shorts or sweat pants, and tennis shoes. CGWA work party planned for Nov. 1

The Columbia Gorge Windsurfing Association (CGWA) has planned a work party for Saturday at Doug’s Beach. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. just east of Lyle, Wash., on Highway 14. Activities will include pulling weeds and cleaning up trash, and you are asked to bring tools if you have them. For more information, call 386-9225 or visit

Youth volleyball tryouts start Nov. 2

The newly introduced Wind River Volleyball Club will soon be holding tryouts for all interested female athletes, ages 10-18. The USA Volleyball affiliate, which will be directed by Jen and Scott Baklenko, hopes to draw players from Stevenson to Sherman County and all points in between. Players will be organized into three teams — 10-12, 13-14, and 15-18 year-olds — and the club will be based in Hood River. Tryouts are scheduled for Nov. 2 (10-12 and 13-14 year-olds) and Nov. 9 (15-18 year-olds) at HRVHS from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per player, and must be paid at tryouts. HRV ski team to host sale Nov. 8-9

The Hood River Valley Ski Team will hold its annual Ski Sale on Nov. 8-9 at Westside Elementary. Check-in for equipment sellers will be Friday, Nov. 7 from 5-10 p.m. Sale hours will be Nov. 8 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. ($2 admission), and Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. People invited to ride Seahawks bus

HR Community Education is planning an all-day trip to Seahawks Stadium in Seattle this Sunday to watch the Seahawks play the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cost is $95 per person, and includes a seat on the bus and at the game. Bus will leave at 7 a.m. and return at roughly 9 p.m. To sign up, call 386-2055.
