Cross-country teams headed to coast
The Hood River Valley cross-country teams hope to run over the competition at Saturday’s Three-Course Challenge at Camp Rilea, near Seaside. The boys and girls teams will travel to the coast on Friday, spend the night in the barracks, and then compete Saturday morning starting at 9 a.m. Some of the best programs in the Northwest will attend, and runners are randomly placed on the “easy,” “moderate,” and “difficult” courses. Mazeski wins I.C. Fall Handicap
Diana Mazeski of Hood River claimed the Indian Creek Fall Handicap title after firing a net score of 69 last Thursday. Coming in second and leading Class A was Clara Rice, who shot a 71. Sara Smith also shot a 71, while Judy Grainger fired a 72 for third place. In Class B, Irene Kiyokawa shot a 70 to take top honors, and was followed by Cynthia Brocklesby (71) and Barb Zeller (78). Susan Gutzler had the fewest putts in Class A with 29, and Brocklesby had the fewest putts in Class B with 32.
Odell Little League to elect positions
The Odell Little League has several board positions available and will hold an election meeting tonight at 6 p.m. at Peppman Field. Positions available include vice president, treasurer, secretary, safety officer and player agent. Please do your part to ensure a successful baseball program for next year and future years. HR Little League to elect positions
The Hood River Little League local committee will hold the September board meeting on Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Westside School cafeteria. Officers and committee members for the 2004 season will be elected at this time. All baseball and softball parents are invited. Call 387-3777 with questions.
HR youth basketball meeting Thursday
Hood River Valley basketball coaches Phil Vesel and Tracy Norton will hold an informational meeting on Thursday at HRVHS about a new Youth Basketball Association. The club is geared toward kids in 6th through 8th grades, and is still in the planning stages. Thursday’s meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in room F108. Middle school football opens Thursday
Hood River Middle School and Wy’east Middle School will renew their gridiron rivalry this Thursday at HRMS, starting at 3:30 p.m. The seventh graders will face off in the early game, followed by the eighth graders. Also on Thursday, the two schools’ volleyball teams will battle it out in the HRMS gym.
Summit snowboard meeting Sept. 25
Snowboard season isn’t that far off, which means the Summit Snowboard Team is starting to get organized for the upcoming season. After a disappointing 2003 season, which saw minimal snowfall, the team is hoping for a season more like 2002. And to get people excited, an informational meeting has been planned for kids and their parents on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. in the HRVHS Commons.
