Sharlene Danielle Kirby, a Hood River, Ore., resident, died April 8, 2005, at her residence. She was 36 years of age.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, April 16, at 1 p.m. at Riversong.
Sharlene was born Oct. 26, 1968, in Bishop Falls, Newfoundland, Canada, to Edward and Shirley (Champion) Shallow. She grew up in London, Ontario, and attended the University of Western Ontario, earning a degree in philosophy/psychology.
She received a master’s degree in linguistics from Eastern Michigan University. She moved to Hood River from Victoria, Canada, in 2001. She worked as an ESL teacher in the area and also worked part time at Columbia Gorge Community College. She enjoyed yoga, knitting, the coast, music, dancing, travel, snowboarding and movies.
Surviving are her parents, Edward and Shirley Shallow of Coldbrook, Nova Scotia; her brother, Mark Shallow, also of Coldbrook, Nova Scotia; her boyfriend, Steve Dunlap of Hood River; and her dear friend, Jon Kirby, of Portland, Ore.

Sharon Kay Ross, 61, passed away in her home on April 10, 2005. She was born to Ovadell (Beatty) and Lester Roth in Sterling, Colo., on Jan. 10, 1944. Sharon moved to the Gorge area as a very young girl, and lived in Lyle, Bingen, Husum and White Salmon. In 1998 she moved to Hood River.
Sharon enjoyed driving and collecting Beanie Babies. She was a very selfless woman who took care of everyone else before tending to herself. She loved her children and grandchildren.
Sharon was very committed to Hood River Vineyard Church and a faithful follower of Jesus.
Sharon is survived by her husband, John Ross of Hood River; daughters Sherry Roberts of Hood River, Jacqueline Al-Imam of Boston, Mass., and Leslie Huhtala of Longview, Wash.; sons Terry Roberts of Hood River, Jerry Ross of Burbank, Wash., Thomas Ross of the Philippines, Rusty Roberts of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Douglas Roberts of Kalispell, Mont.
She is also survived by her mother, Ovadell Roth of Lyle; and brothers Lonnie Roth of Hood River and Dan Roth of Lyle, Wash. Sharon was preceded in death by her father, Lester Roth, brother, Dale Roth, and nephew, Ronnie Roth.
A celebration of life was held at Hood River Vineyard Church on Tuesday, April 12, at 4 p.m. Gardner Funeral Home’s Columbia River Crematory was entrusted with the arrangements.
