A new bookstore has arrived in Hood River. Book Stop, a bookstore providing new and used books, has opened at 13 Oak St., between The Gorge Surf Shop and Hood River Bagels. Providing comfortable seating and a spacious atmosphere, Book Stop is open Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday evenings until 8 p.m.
The store is owned by the Christensen family: Cynthia, husband Charles, and daughters Christina, Laura, and Kelsey.
“We wanted to open a bookstore that understands book lovers and browsers like us; a place where readers could bring in a cup of coffee, sit down and read a book, chat, and hang around for awhile,” Cynthia said. “We are starting this business because we like the idea of hanging around a bookstore and actually getting paid for it, instead of the other way around.”
Book Stop specializes in service as well as product. It offers new and “gently” used books in hardcover and paperback.
The bookstore offers a wide range of categories, from comedy to classics, and best sellers, thrillers, mystery, romance, children’s, true crime, science fiction, historical fiction, literature, western, and selected nonfiction. The owners also have plans to build a stronger branch in the children’s area.
“We love to help people find the books they’re looking for, or suggest books they might not know they’re looking for,” Cynthia said.
