Horizon holds concert, gallery
Horizon Christian School will be presenting a Spring Concert and Art Gallery on Thursday.
An art gallery of special works by Horizon students will be open for viewing beginning at 6:30 p.m. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature the Jubilee Choir (grades 5-6), the Voices of Galilee Choir (grades 7-12), and beginning, intermediate, and concert bands.
The concert and art gallery will be at the Hood River Assembly of God Church, located at 1110 May St., Hood River.
The event is open to the public and is free.
Students win spelling contest
Two Hood River County students will advance to state following the Hood River County School District Spelling Contest, held May 20.
Dylan Smith, a Westside fifth grader, and Roberto Nunez, a Hood River Middle School seventh grader, will represent the county at the State Spelling contest in September at the State Fair.
Emma Spaulding, a Wy’east eighth grader, took second in the middle school division. In second and third in the elementary division (kindergarten through fifth grade) were Joshua Drake, fourth grader at Cascade Locks, and Eliot Bowie, fifth grader at Parkdale.
Roberto and Lilia Nunez donated books for all finalists and $50 prizes to the first-place finishers.
“The words were very difficult and the students did very well,” said Marcia LaDuke, assistant superintendent.
Roberto Nunez won with the words “scintilla” and “dexterously,” while Dylan Smith prevailed with words such as “trafficking” and “mauve.”
